Defacing School Property:

  • Consequences: Parent/guardian notification, detention, cleaning of surface, and payment of damages as per the Student Code of Conduct procedures. Under New Jersey law, any person 13-17 years old may have their motor vehicle and/or motorized bicycle driving privileges postponed, suspended, or revoked for one year if found guilty of defacing any surface with graffiti.

Destruction of School Property:

  • Consequences: Parent/guardian notification, Out of School Suspension pending possible Board of Education action (long term suspension), civil action, and restitution.

Arson: A person is a victim of arson when the actor starts a fire or causes an explosion in or on the grounds of a school whereby purposely or knowingly the victim or group of specified victims are in danger of death or bodily injury; or with the purpose of destroying or damaging the victim's or group of specified victims' property that is in the school or on school grounds.
